The Department of Archeology and National Museums is planning to submit the Shwedagon Pagoda in Bahan Township to UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Currently, Mrauk-U, Rakhine State, has been nominated for World Heritage status, and plans are underway to add the Shwedagon Pagoda after Mrauk-U.

"There are plans to submit the Shwedagon Pagoda to UNESCO. It has not been prepared yet.

We are currently working on Mrauk-U. We will go one by one," said Aung Aung Kyaw, director of the Department of Archeology and National Museums.

The Department of Archeology and National Museums is working with local and foreign experts to find and preserve strong archeological sites and artifacts in Myanmar.

Preparation for Mrauk-U, Rakhine State, was started in 2016 and submitted in December 2021.
